The Faculty of Education of the Balearic Islands University (UIB), in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Speech Therapy, Phoniatrics and Audiology (AELFA) and the Institut de Recerca i Innovació Educativa (IRIE), have organized two conferences with leading researchers in the field of DLD: PhD. Gina Conti-Ramsden (5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.) and PhD. Kevin Durkin (7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.).
PhD. Gina Conti-Ramsden, professor and researcher at the University of Manchester, specialized in the study of the development of children and young adults with DLD from a holistic perspective (psychological, social, educational, familiar, neurobiological factors ), as well as the study of early DLD markers and its genetic risk factors, will conduct the conference titled «Verbal profiles and non-verbal cognitive skills of children with developmental language disorder».
On the other hand, PhD. Kevin Durkin, professor at the University of Starthclyde, that has focused his research on the typical and atypical acquisition of language, and on how communicative problems that appear in DLD can affect other developmental areas, will present the topic «Personal development of children with developmental language disorder: behavior, emotions and social adjustment».
The conferences will take place the next October the 23rd of 2020 at the auditorium of the building Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, at the UIB main campus, and will be telematically transmitted to the university campus of Menorca and Ibiza. The scheduled time for the conferences will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (PhD. Gina Conti-Ramsden) and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (PhD. Kevin Durkin). Also, the speakers will conduct a course with recognized hours of teacher formation between Friday evening and Saturday morning (October the 23rd and 24th).
