My research interests involve different aspects of language acquisition difficulties, language development and the influence of bilingualism on the linguistic and cognitive development of children with Specific Language Impariment (SLI).



Daniel Adrover Roig. Senior Lecturer.  


I received my Ph.D. in 2008  (Neurosciences area, Balearic Islands University, UIB), which consisted in characterizing both cognitive and EEG patterns of task switching in non-clinical aging populations.  During 2008-2011 I did my postdoctoral stay in Montréal (Canada) under the supervision of Dr. Ansaldo. During this period I explored how lifelong bilingualism shapes neuronal networks and impacts attentional control. My research interests focus on the development of attention and emotion in multilingual children and adults, particularly on the interplay between decision making, language, and emotion. I am also very interested in how bilingualism impacts the learning process in children with language acquisition difficulties.


Lucía Buil-Legaz. Contract Lecturer with a Doctoral Degree.


Bachelors in Psychology in 2007 (University of Barcelona, UB). During my Ph. D. I explored both the cognitive and linguistic factors associated with language acquisition and reading difficulties from a longitudinal perspective. I am currently an associate professor at the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology located at the Balearic Islands University. My research focuses on language acquisition, language impairment, reading and bilingualism.


Josep A. Pérez-Castelló. Senior Lecturer. 

Ph.D. in communication and development at the University of Barcelona in 1992. I worked in the laboratory of communicative competence at the same university from 1986 to 1992. Since then I teaching developmental psychology and developmental disorders at the Balearic Islands University. My research focuses on the development of referential communication in persons with language disorders. I am also interested in the influence of bilingualism on communication development and its relationship with the emotional development.


 Raül López-Penadès. Contract Lecturer with a Doctoral Degree. 

I received my Bachelor and Ph.D. in Psychology at the Jaume I University of Castelló where I stayed as a postdoctoral researcher also. Currently, I am Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology of the University of the Balearic Islands. My research interests have generally focused on human psychophysiological research of basic processes of emotion, attention, and motivation and their pathological manifestations such as psychopathy, anxiety, and addictive disorders. I am also interested in studying the role of affective mechanisms in language development and bilingualism.

Àngels Esteller Cano. Assistant Lecturer with a Doctoral Degree.


Master’s degree in Psychopathology, Health, and Neuropsychology, and Ph.D. in Psychology at the Jaume I University of Castellón. Currently, I am working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology of the University of the Balearic Islands. My research interests focus on exploring individual differences regarding basic psychological processes (cognitive and affective) that underlie normal and pathological human behavior (learning, bilingualism, language disorders, psychopathy…) through the use of different psychophysiological techniques and behavioral tasks.


Eduard Rigo Carratalà. Full Professor.                                                                               


Ph.D. in  Developmental Psychology at Universitat de Barcelona (‘Henri Wallon’s thought as a working model of cognitive development in children’, Universitat de Barcelona, UB). Both My research and teaching interests involve a wide range of cognitive and emotional aspects that modulate the development of cognition and emotion during childhood and adolescence. I am also an active member of the Psychological and Educational Counseling Program at the Balearic Islands University.


Immaculada Sureda Garcia. Senior Lecturer.

PhD in Psychopedagogy in 1998. I am currently a Lecturer of Educational Psychology in the area of Evolutionary Psychology and Education. My main research line has been the context of peer rejection, deficits in emotional competencies and social skills. I have participated as a member of the team in different inter-university projects financed by the Ministry of Education or other entities, involved in these topics. My publications include: How to improve self-concept, Intervention program for improving social skills, Rejection between peers in their interpersonal context and different articles in the context of peer relationships.

Ester Salom Mariano. Assistant.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of the Balearic Islands. In 2015, I obtained a double master’s degree  in Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology from the University of Valencia and the Université Paris Descartes. I have worked in different HR departments, I wrote in a technology blog which made me passionate about the dissemination of content. At the moment, I am working in tasks related to a research about language disorders and I am in charge of the dissemination of our research and results writing in this blog or via social media. Besides, I am coordinating a new postgraduate degree in hearing and language from the UIB.

Juan Carretero Pizá. Assistant.

I graduated in Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (2016), and obtained an MSc in Clinical, Social and Cognitive Neurosciences at City University London (2016-2018). My interest in psychological research, specially with topics related to linguistic development and difficulties in emotion processing, brought me to work within this team. My job is to help in different stages of the investigation process and, also, I carry out the diffusion in this blog of the work of the I+DEL research team.


Albert Flexas Oliver. Assistant Lecturer with a Doctoral Degree.        

Ph. D. in Cognition and Human Evolution by the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB, 2013). My Ph.D. thesis contributed to the understanding of human capacity to appreciate beauty (aesthetics) and to judge what is right and what is wrong (moral). Through the years 2016 and 2017 I was director of the Degree in Psychology at the Isabel I University. By the end of 2017 I returned to the UIB. My research interests focus on how people develop moral and aesthetic capacities throughout the life cicle and how this capacities relate to another cognitive ability of human species, language.

Ramon Bassa Martín. Emeritus Senior Lecturer. 

I am a teacher (1968) with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy (Pedagogy section, UB 1975) and PhD in Educational Sciences (UIB 1989). Lecturer and Associate Professor since 1993. Currently I am an Associate Professor Emeritus from Didactics and School Organization of the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands. Language service ex-director (2003 – 2011) at the same university with experience in teaching for 50 years (1968-2018). I have obtained from the Didactics seminary at ICE from the UIB, the Baldiri Reixac (OC 1983) and Emili Darder (OCB 1992) awards. My work and research areas are didactics for Language abilities, didactics of orality, didactic of spelling and catalan, children’s and youth literature and educational history (20th century).
