We attendet the XXXI International Congress AELFA-IF in Granada

Eva Aguilar attended the XXXI Congreso Internacional de la Asociación Española de Logopedia, Foniatría y Audiología e Iberoamericana de Fonoaudiología (AELFA-IF) in Granada. She participated in a communication about different researches done by the I+DEL team about Speech issues in children with SLI.

During this communication, Eva talked about different studies done with children suffering from SLI. Loads of researches done related to SLI focused on studying children at early ages such as 3 or 4 years of age. For this particular reason, the team has done research focused in filling a gap in older children. We studied 18 children with SLI at 6 years of age, and another sample with the same age not suffering from the impairment, as a control group. These children were selected considering the gender and the classroom they were in.

The results showed that children with SLI produced less correct syllabic structures and performed poorly in phoneme production and distinction. These results suggest that 6 years old children with SLI still have problems with phonology, at the perceptive and productive level, specially at the syllabic and phonemic levels. However, not all children with SLI present this speech delay, and this hinders detecting this disorder.

Furthermore, Eva assisted to different lectures and conferences, thus getting to meet different professionals specialized in language. You can consult the programme of the congress here.
