Bullying and Cyberbullying on IB3 Radio

Last Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, our team member Albert Flexas was interviewed to IB3 Radio to discuss the key aspects of bullying and cyberbullying. The full interview, conducted in Catalan, can be listened to here.

The conversation covered the motivations behind bullying, victim profiles, and the severe impacts on mental health—including anxiety, depression, and, in some cases, suicidal behavior. Albert emphasized the critical role of early intervention and education, as well as the need for families and educators to recognize and address these issues proactively.

These topics are directly related with our research on cyberbullying among students with specific needs of educational support, bullying victim categorization and language difficulties. Our findings reveal that students with developmental and learning disorders, such as language difficulties or reading disabilities, often face higher victimization risks.

To better understand and assess bullying experiences in schools, we adapted and validated the Spanish version of the California Bullying Victimization Scale (CBVS-R), which is now a reliable tool for evaluating these behaviors in Spanish-speaking populations.

Based on our findings and previous literature, Albert underscored the importance of a comprehensive approach to tackling bullying and cyberbullying, involving both direct support for victims and a broader focus on empathy and social connection in schools.
